Душа, в которой отсутствует мудрость, — мертва. Но если обогатить ее учением, она оживет, подобно заброшенной земле, на которую пролился дождь (с) Абу-ль-Фарадж.

The Halloween story
There was a Hallowe'en. All the ghosts gathered together for a meeting on that side of the black stump. The Chief Ghost opened his diary and began to speak
“You know that every year on Halloween we have a right to come down to the earth to spend one day among people. But you also know that there are some rules. And some of you depart from these rules. Elvis, you were noticed on the earth more than 10 times this year. Your coming down this year is a big issue…”
“What's wrong about it?”
The Chief started to be nervous:
“The fact that some especially impressionable people consider that the King of Rock-n-Roll is still alive not in the figurative sense is wrong!”
Gloating chuckle was heard. The Chief turned to another victim:
“And why are you laughing, Vlad? You were a great human, a legendary vampire. However, as a ghost, you are very mediocre!”
“Why, I wonder?” – Dracula set the stand-up collar of his invariable cloak straight.
“I even have no idea what to start with!” – The Chief flung his ghostly arms up. – “Who knocks the coffins’ lids and tells to the vampires that the personal letter has come? Who intimidates young vampires that they will die if they drink the blood of people who have AIDS? They lead every victim to the hospital before bite it!
“Jealousy is a bad feeling. All this because of the fact he is dead, and they are alive, though they are dead… Sorry for the oxymoron…”
“If I were you, Mr Smith, I wouldn’t be so glad! Your coming down to the earth is a big issue too!”
“Oh no! Why? I can’t stay here. I need to go! I have a very important unfinished business on the earth!”
“To carry your mother-in-law off? Yeah, yeah, we know about it. That’s why we don’t want you to go down. By the way here is the refusal from above. You are not allowed to come back to the earth in your body. Yup, they also know about your mother-in-law. The first rule: not to touch alive people! Otherwise you will never find peace!”
Every ghost makes a face, but keeps silent.
“And you, Miss? Why have you refused to come down? Each of them would like to be in your shoes and to go. Your characteristics are perfect!”
“I have nothing to wear! There is no appropriate body for me!”
It’s time to retire, the Chief Ghost thought.

Halloween
You can see a pale dead queen,
Man with axe sticked up from his head,
In moon’s light witch’s silhouette.
Vampires, zombies and werewolves
Are just dressed up kids in shoes.
They puff smoke into the house
And have fun for several hours.
Pumpkins show their dreadful grins,
Do you know what all this means?
The last day of the October
Gives all people his great order:
To observe the Day of Saints,
Make bright costumes and fun paints.
Everybody celebrates,
And is fond of playing pranks.
After the ball
After the ball was over
Mary took out her glass eye
Put her false teeth in some water
Hung up her wig to dry
Put her peg leg in the corner
Hung her wax ear on the wall
That's why you'd never know Mary,
After the ball.

Modern dance
Dance is the only art of which we ourselves are the stuff of which it is made. ~Ted Shawn, Time, 25 July 1955
Born in the early 20th century, modern dance is a dance style that centers on a dancer's own interpretations instead of structured steps, as in traditional ballet dancing. Modern dancers reject the limitations of classical ballet and favor movements derived from the expression of their inner feelings. During the 1900's, European dancers began rebelling against the rigid rules of classical ballet. Turning against the structured techniques, costumes and shoes of ballet, these dancers favaored a more relaxed, free style of dancing. Modern dance pioneers often danced in bare feet and revealing costumes. In the United States, several dance pioneers paved the way for American modern dance, including the legendary Martha Graham.
In a dancer, there is a reverence for such forgotten things as the miracle of the small beautiful bones and their delicate strength. ~Martha Graham
Characteristics of Modern Dance:
Modern dance encourages dancers to use their emotions and moods to design their own steps and routines. It is not unusual for modern dancers to invent new steps for their routines, instead of following a structured code of technique, as in ballet.
Another characteristic of modern dance in opposition to ballet is the deliberate use of gravity. Whereas classical ballet dancers strive to be light and airy on their feet, modern dancers often use their body weight to enhance movement. A modern dancer rejects the classical ballet stance of an upright, erect body, often opting instead for deliberate falls to the floor.
To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful. ~Agnes De Mille

Contemporary trends of art
Art is always in tune with its time; it is modern and reflects the outlook of society in general. In its turn, the art has a strong influence on the people, so the attitude of the artist to the life is important. The development of multiple distorted trends in art, the so-called pseudo-art, is in keeping with the times.
Beginning of the 21st century is a jump into the new period. Today we can observe the development of the computer technology, the appearance of new trends of art, new creative decisions in fashion, art, science, life-style and so on and so forth. Among contemporary art trends there are classical realism, avant-gardism, relational art, street art, stuckism, superflat, videogame art, superstroke, VJ art, virtual art, altermodern, IMMAGINE&POESIA, kinetic art, pop-art, op-art, underground, body-art and many others.
I am of the opinion that the most striking, impressive and unusual modern trend of art is body-art. Body art is art made on, with, or consisting of, the human body. The most common forms of body art are tattoos and body piercings, but other types include scarification, branding, scalpelling, shaping (for example tight-lacing of corsets), full body tattoo and body painting.
I am not an admirer of the excess in this sphere, but moderate body-art looks rather attractive to my mind. More extreme body art can involve things such as mutilation or pushing the body to its physical limits. I think that it is not art, it is disfiguring of human’s body and its natural beauty and damaging of human’s health.
The purposes of body art:
- change and transformation of the personality
- the putting of symbols, ritual variants
- the desire to overcome the pain
- to beautify the body
- to distinguish oneself
To appreciate or not is a matter of taste. So look the video and form an estimate about body-art.
Nice viewing :))

The purposes of art
"Artists must continue the conquest of new territory and new taboos"
- Norman Rosenthal, Director of the Royal Academy of Arts, London
There is a perception that contemporary art does not follow linear time model, it is "outside", that is its coordinates can not be designated, it is impossible to distinguish its purpose. However, I do not agree with this opinion. The purpose of works of art may be
- to communicate ideas, such as in politically, spiritually, or philosophically motivated art;
- to create a sense of beauty;
- to explore the nature of perception;
- for pleasure;
- to generate strong emotions.
The purpose may also be seemingly nonexistent.

What is art?
Art is part and parcel of our life. Over the centuries people have been creating, looking at, criticizing and enjoying art. But only few of us think over the questions: what is art, what is its purpose and what creations can we call works of art. To answer these questions I found several definitions of art. Among them there are statements belonging to different spheres of art and science: philosophy, fine art, writing, music etc. I think that views from different sides must create an overall notion about a definition of art in my mind. So Pablo Picasso, a Spanish painter, draughtsman, and sculptor said: “Art is a lie that makes us realize truth”. Theodore Dreiser, an American novelist and journalist, wrote the following: “Art is the stored honey of the human soul, gathered on wings of misery and travail”. Johann Goethe, writer, pictorial artist, biologist, theoretical physicist, and polymath, was of opinion that the work of art is a mediator of the inexpressible. Edvard Grieg, a Norwegian composer and pianist, considered art an enigma, which he couldn’t find out. The Oxford Dictionaries give us the next definition: “Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power”. Immanuel Kant, a German philosopher, defines art as the creation of any work due to freedom. And this means that the work is a work of art only when it was invented before its realization.
To my mind art is an ability to create incredible works from usual things; it is beautiful incarnation of great idea; it is subjugation of space; it is an illusion, an unreal reality. But the distinguishing feature of art in my opinion is an aesthetic pleasure. If people do not appreciate a creation, it can barely be called a work of art.
